If I had to sum up Iceland in three words, it'd be hipster, natural, and beautiful.
We arrived on May 17th and returned on May 20th. Even though I was only there for four days, my friend and I felt like we were able to see most, if not all, of Iceland's "popular" attractions and more. Since two 5 feet tall girls were traveling on their own internationally for the first time, we wanted to go somewhere fairly easy to navigate and safe. Therefore we decided on Iceland. We flew with Wowair because it was pretty affordable.
My itinerary ended up being too detailed and filled with a lot of pictures... So I divided it into four different posts! Click on each day to see the detailed itinerary.
Day 1 | Reykjavik
Day 2 | The Golden Circle
Day 3 | Southern Iceland + Glacier Hiking
Day 4 | Blue Lagoon
Random Facts about Iceland:
- Sunrise in May: around 4:30 am
- Sunset in May: around 11 pm
- Temperature in May: highs of 55 and lows of 35
- It is not customary to tip at restaurants.
- Smoked puffin, fermented shark, sheep heads, whale, and hot dogs are Icelandic foods to try (even though we only tried the hot dog because... we weren't brave enough)
- It smells like sulfur (aka rotten eggs) everywhere because of the natural hot water. You get used to it over time!
- There's a lot of cool graffiti around Reykjavik! Like the one below:

I hope this makes traveling to Iceland less intimidating! Iceland was beautiful and I would definitely want to visit again - maybe in the winter next time. I want to catch the northern lights and explore an ice cave if possible! Let me know how your trip went and what you thought of my itinerary in the comments below! Thanks (:
Love, Alice
